Outside School

The Helix

The Helix is an ambitious community project to transform under-used land between Falkirk and Grangemouth into a thriving green park area complete with woodland, lagoon, cycle paths and walkways.

We want to involve the local community in the Helix project, including young people and schools. Potential volunteering opportunities include litter picks, wildlife surveys, planting schemes, heritage walks and guided tours.

You can read some examples of activities that children and schools have already been involved in on the Helix |website and if this inspires you to join in, visit the get involved |page of their site, or talk to your teacher about getting involved through your school.

The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP)

The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) is a non-political, youth-led organisation that seeks to represent and be representative of Scotland's young people ages 14-25. It is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be a voice for young people in Scotland and try to bring about positive change both locally and nationally.

Elections were held in partnership with Local Authorities across Scotland and in April 2011, 4 MSYPs (Members of Scottish Youth Parliament) were elected to represent the Falkirk area. You can read about how to contact your local MSYP| on the youth parliament website.
